Steel is often perceived as a material of strength, one that gives support to sturdy structures: vehicles, shipping containers, buildings and the like. The artist, however, hopes to examine a vulnerable side to it: its surface.

The surface of steel is almost never seen; it is too commonly coated or painted over in order to protect it from corrosion. But here, she exposes its naked surface. And yet, because steel begins to rust from the moment it is exposed, it can only be in this state for a brief period of time before it begins to wear from its environment and lose that purity.

Fascination with the changing physical states of matter spurred her to dismantle a faulty fridge and examine its freezing process. She employs the heat conductivity of metal to induce the forming of ice and water condensation as a basis for this work. The moisture from the air appears on the metal surface and reacts with it to form rust.
